English Conversation

English Conversation in American Homes

Church of the Nations offers English Conversation most Friday nights starting at 7:30 p.m. in various American homes. Yesin American homes! (A different home each week. About once every month English Conversation meets at the church.)

Those who come divide into two or more small groups. Each group has a teacher/leader. We do not use textbooks or follow a set course for teaching English. So you can choose which group you want to be in. And if you miss an English Conversation time it does not mean you will have to catch up.

We meet for about one hour and then have time for drinks and snacks.

You can drive yourself or – if you live near the LSU campus you can ask for a ride. If you plan to come and need a ride… you must tell us by Thursday. This is the list of places we can pick you up – and at what time.

Where and when we can pick you up if you need a ride (this list will change sometimes – check!) =

  • Boone (next to Place du Plantier apartments) at 6:55 p.m.
  • Highland Plantation (now The Hub) bus stop (the bus stop that is not next to WalMart) at 7:00 p.m.
  • Milford + Gourrier (between El Cid + Embassy apartments) at 7:05 p.m
  • (We do not go to Edward Gay apartments at the moment. If you live at Edward Gay apartments and need a ride… ask.)
  • Tigerland (bus stop on Alvin Dark across street from store) at 7:10 p.m.
  • Brightside bus stop (across from Circle K gas station – outside The Blox) at 7:15 p.m.

Please note that English Conversation is for people who know at least some English. We do not have a class for beginners (people who do not know English or know almost no English). Sorry about that. Other churches offer English classes for people who do not know any English.

Do not bring children to English Conversation. We do not have childcare or lessons for children. If you bring children it will be more difficult to concentrate on learning and practicing English. It also makes English Conversation more difficult for your teachers and the host family. We sometimes let middle and high school students participate if we think they are ready. Thank you for respecting and following this rule.
