Super science Saturday! this Saturday October 29

This is not a Church of the Nations activity. We want to let you know about fun and interesting activities in and around Baton Rouge. Especially anything that has to do with science.

Super Science Saturday at Louisiana State University this Saturday at the PMAC ( = Pete Maravich Assembly Center) upper level

Super Science Saturday (SSS) is a free Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education event for students in kindergarten to 12th grade, parents, and anyone interested in seeing science in action.  SSS is sponsored by LSU Chemistry, the Baton Rouge local section of the American Chemical Society (ACS), and LSU Athletics.

SSS is held each Fall, usually around National Chemistry Week.  This year there will be 19 stations with hands-on demonstrations and activities to engage students and adults alike.  Each K-12 student that attends is given a Passport at the check-in area that has blocks for all the activity stations.  When the student visits the station and participates in the activities the Passport is stamped.  After visiting all the activity stations located around the concourse level of the PMAC they will receive some small gifts at the check-out area.  Many regional K-12 teachers give students with a fully-stamped Passport some bonus points for attending and learning some science – so hang on to those Passports if that is the case. …

The event is free, but we are collecting non-perishable food items (and/or monetary donations) for the Baton Rouge Food Bank.

The organizer of the event is Dr. Andrew Maverick (LSU Chemistry, phone: 225-578-4415, E-mail: maverick@lsu.edu).  Please contact him for more information or questions about Super Science Saturday.

We plan to have Sunday morning activities

Several people have contacted us to ask if we will have Sunday morning activities tomorrow. Yes – we do plan. Sunday morning activities are not cancelled for Church of the Nations and University Baptist Church. We plan to have Bible study + worship on Sunday August 14. If that changes… then we will update this website. So check tonight… check tomorrow morning before 8:00-9:00 a.m.

The most important thing is that you are safe. If it is too difficult for you to come to the church… stay home! And contact us if you need help. We know there has been flooding around Louisiana State University. And we know that some neighborhoods around the university have a lot of water. We want you to be safe.

BCM Thanksgiving 2015

*Last* Life and Faith Course for internationals – tonight at the BCM

Note – This will be last Bible study at the BCM this semester. We know people are interested in a Bible study for internationals during the summer. We will talk about this tonight.

Special Bible study opportunity!

Dr Rick Wright will teach a basic introduction to the Bible during the Spring semester *tonight* Monday from 7:00-7:45 p.m.*  Each class will start after the internationals dinner at the Baptist Collegiate Ministry (BCM) at Louisiana State University (corner of Highland Road and Chimes). Dinner + Bible study! Great combination!

Last semester Dr Wright gave students a basic overview of the story of the Bible from Creation to Jesus and the Church. This semester the Bible studies will cover the basic teachings and practices of the Christian faith. If this is the story that the Bible tells then what do we believe? and how do we live? Dr Wright has been a pastor for internationals at University Baptist Church for 14 years. He has taught courses at Cornell University and Tulane University and now teaches Biblical Hebrew at Louisiana State University. The classes will use simple English. Internationals and Americans are both welcome.

If you have a Bible bring it. If you do not have a Bible let us know and we can give you one for free.

Let’s meet for lunch! Rick teaching at Louisiana State University this year

Some of you know that Rick Wright – pastor of Church of the Nations – is teaching a class at Louisiana State University this year as an adjunct instructor. His class is Monday through Thursday mornings in Coates Hall near the Student Union. That means he is on campus four days a week! He would love to get together with internationals for lunch. Does not have to be at a restaurant – we can bring our own lunches and meet somewhere. And he can come to where you are. Classroom, office, lab – wherever.

If you would like to him to come meet you for lunch send him an email at Rwright@Ubc-br.org or call him on his cell phone (number below). He can meet people for lunch any day except Monday.
