Special concert of music and song – this Sunday evening April 17

There will be a concert this Sunday April 17 starting at 6:00 p.m. in the “big sanctuary” at University Baptist Church. (Instrumental prelude starting at 5:30 p.m. so come early!)

An Evening of Sacred and Gospel Music

This program is a salute to the “old hymns of the faith.” The various choirs, ensembles, quartets, trios, and soloists of University Baptist Church will be singing. In addition to the talented UBC musicians, we will also be welcoming Dr. Benji Harlan, music professor and talented pianist; Jacqueline Paige-Green, an accomplished lyric-soprano [now there is a vocabulary word!] and Professor of Voice at Southern University; The Heritage Singers; Christy Lee Gandy, violinst; and the Foto Sisters String Trio, highly regarded for their beautiful, uplifting instrumental performances

This event is free and open to the public.

We do not plan to send the church bus to pick up people for this event. In the past people from our church family have enjoyed these concerts very much.

Downtown Christmas music – Sunday December 14

Church of the Nations will take a group downtown for the Downtown Christmas Pilgrimage this Sunday, December 14 starting at 5:30 p.m. at Mt Zion Baptist Church (near First United Methodist Church). We can only take 14 people on the church bus so please email me to let me know you want to come and need a ride on the bus. If you can drive yourself and meet us at the first church that will help.

The Downtown Christmas Pilgrimage is a beautiful and special way to prepare for and celebrate Christmas. Music and singing at six churches in downtown Baton Rouge. We begin at one church then walk to the next one and the next one and so on – six churches in all. We usually only go to the first 3-4 churches before it gets too late and people start to become tired.

You can drive yourself and meet us at the first church by 5:00 p.m. (nice and early in order to get good seats). We normally park at First Presbyterian Church and then walk to Mt Zion First Baptist.

This is where we *park* next to First Presbyterian Church

Or you can ride on the church bus. Schedule and order very different from English Conversation!

  • Brightside (across from gas station + stores) at 4:18 p.m.
  • Boone (next to Place du Plantier apartments) at 4:25 p.m.
  • Highland Plantation (bus stop next to big sign) at 4:30 p.m.
  • Gourrier + Milford (between El Cid + Embassy apartments) at 4:35 p.m.
  • Edward Gay at 4:40 p.m.

Please allow 5-10 minutes for the bus to arrive because of weather or traffic. We will not come back to the church before we go downtown. If you drive yourself it is easy to meet us at First Presbyterian Church parking lot at 5:00 p.m.

Children are welcome (as long as they participate and can walk with everyone else). We strongly recommend you have something to eat/drink before you come! (We may not be finished until around 8:00 p.m.) Bring good walking shoes and good clothes for the cold weather.

This is perhaps Pastor Rick’s favorite activity during the Advent/Christmas season. We hope you can join us.
