Special Christmas Eve candlelight service this Thursday

Candlelight service

We invite you to the Christmas Eve worship service this Thursday December 24 starting at 5:00 p.m. in the “big sanctuary” of University Baptist Church:

5775 Highland Road, 70808

There will be Christmas music and songs and the service will end with the lighting of candles to represent Christ who is the light of the world. Children are welcome. We do not know yet if there will be a church bus to pick up people. We will let you know as soon as we can.

Downtown Christmas Pilgrimage – Sunday December 13

Important notes – We have a small problem. The Live Nativity and Downtown Christmas Pilgrimage are at almost the same time this year. It will be difficult to do both. So Rick Wright will be at the Live Nativity… but some people from the church will go to the Downtown Christmas Pilgrimage. (1) You will need to choose one or the other. (2) If you want to go to the Downtown Christmas Pilgrimage you will need to drive yourself or get a ride. (3) If you have a car or a ride… you might be able to visit the Live Nativity… and then leave by 4:30 p.m…. and also go to the Christmas Pilgrimage. We are trying to give internationals a choice. Live Nativity… or Downtown Pilgrimage… or (if you are fast and have a car/ride) both. If you really want to go to the Downtown Pilgrimage… we are working to help people do that.

The Downtown Christmas Pilgrimage is a beautiful and special way to prepare for and celebrate Christmas. Basically there is music and singing at five churches in downtown Baton Rouge. We begin at one church then walk to the next one and the next one and so on – six churches in all. (We will probably not go to all six churches – that can take a long time and people might become too tired. Maybe 3 or 4.)

You can drive yourself and meet us at the first church at 5:00 p.m. (nice and early in order to get good seats, the first church becomes full very quickly). Bring good walking shoes and good clothes for the weather.

We normally park at First Presbyterian Church and then walk to Mt Zion First Baptist (map). So we strongly recommend you meet us at parking lot of First Presbyterian Church by 4:45 p.m. so we can walk to Mt Zion First Baptist together. (You need to know how to walk there.) Or you can walk to Mt Zion First Baptist Church by yourself if you have a good map/GPS. Children are welcome (as long as they participate and can walk with everyone else). We strongly recommend you have something to eat/drink before you come! (We may not be finished until around 8:00 p.m.)

Downtown Christmas music – Sunday December 14

Church of the Nations will take a group downtown for the Downtown Christmas Pilgrimage this Sunday, December 14 starting at 5:30 p.m. at Mt Zion Baptist Church (near First United Methodist Church). We can only take 14 people on the church bus so please email me to let me know you want to come and need a ride on the bus. If you can drive yourself and meet us at the first church that will help.

The Downtown Christmas Pilgrimage is a beautiful and special way to prepare for and celebrate Christmas. Music and singing at six churches in downtown Baton Rouge. We begin at one church then walk to the next one and the next one and so on – six churches in all. We usually only go to the first 3-4 churches before it gets too late and people start to become tired.

You can drive yourself and meet us at the first church by 5:00 p.m. (nice and early in order to get good seats). We normally park at First Presbyterian Church and then walk to Mt Zion First Baptist.

  • Edward Gay at 4:40 p.m.

Please allow 5-10 minutes for the bus to arrive because of weather or traffic. We will not come back to the church before we go downtown. If you drive yourself it is easy to meet us at First Presbyterian Church parking lot at 5:00 p.m.

Children are welcome (as long as they participate and can walk with everyone else). We strongly recommend you have something to eat/drink before you come! (We may not be finished until around 8:00 p.m.) Bring good walking shoes and good clothes for the cold weather.

This is perhaps Pastor Rick’s favorite activity during the Advent/Christmas season. We hope you can join us.

*Today* is last day to sign up for childcare Friday evening

Today is the last day to sign up for childcare this Friday evening. Register at http://www.ubc-br.org/#!event2/cl99 or sending email to Deb McElgin at Children@Ubc-br.org. She needs names and ages of the children you will bring for Parents Night Out. If you plan to come to the Christmas party this Friday – and have a child 5th grade or younger – make sure you register for Parents Night Out today. This is very important – they will not be able to take care of children that are not signed up.

University Baptist Church will offer Parents Night Out on Friday December 6 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. for children 5th grade or younger. The cost is $10/child but a maximum of $20/family. This will make it easier for some internationals to come to our Christmas Celebration at the Stanley home. Make sure you pick up your child before 8:00 p.m.
