Special music concert – Sunday May 21

Sunday May 21 starting at 6:00 p.m. in the “big sanctuary” at University Baptist Church. The combined choirs of (1) Asbury United Methodist Church in Lafayette and (2) University Baptist Church. We are very excited about this special concert of music and song. If you plan to come… and live near Louisiana State University… and need a ride – send us an email. We will try to organize someone who can come and pick you up for the concert.

This Sunday – Join choir?

CON will worship with UBC this Sunday when Greater Mount Olive Baptist Church also comes to join with us for one Sunday.

Do you like to sing? Yeah we know some in our church family love to sing! There will be a “joint” choir rehearsal this Wednesday January 11 in the “music room” starting 6:30 p.m. Looks like the UBC and GMOMBC choirs will sing and lead worship together this Sunday.

Gospel music concert – Friday February 26

Important note = This is not a Church of the Nations activity and we are not able to take a group this time. However… we want you to know about this. We took a group one year ago (two years ago?) and people enjoyed it very much.

Good News Gospel Showcase (Gospel music concert) at Florida Boulevard Baptist Church this Friday February 26 starting at 7:00 p.m. If you are able to go… we encourage you to be there by 6:30 p.m. in order to find good seats. The event is free and “general admission” (no assigned seats – go in and find a seat). Florida Boulevard Baptist Church is not a short drive – it takes about 20+ minutes to drive there from Louisiana State University.

Downtown Christmas Pilgrimage – Sunday, December 19

Church of the Nations will take a group downtown for the Downtown Christmas Pilgrimage this Sunday, December 19 starting at 6:00 p.m. at Mt Zion Baptist Church (near First United Methodist Church).

(I have had difficulty finding a good resource on the Internet for information about this. This is the best I have been able to find:

First Baptist Church calendar

First United Methodist Church calendar

First Presbyterian Church – Christmas Carol Pilgrimage)

The Downtown Christmas Pilgrimage is a beautiful and special way to prepare for and celebrate Christmas. Basically there is music and singing at five churches in downtown Baton Rouge. We begin at one church then walk to the next one and the next one and so on – five churches in all. (We will probably not go to all five churches – that can take a long time and people might become too tired.)

You can drive yourself and meet us at the first church at 5:30 p.m. (nice and early in order to get good seats) or ride on the church bus which will pick up from the usual places starting at Edward Gay at 5:00 p.m. Please allow up to 5-7 minutes for the bus to arrive because of weather or traffic.

Children are welcome (as long as they participate and can walk with everyone else). We strongly recommend you have something to eat/drink before you come! (We may not be finished until around 8:00 p.m.)

This is perhaps Pastor Rick’s favorite activity during the Advent/Christmas season. We hope you can join us.

Join us for choir practice Friday evening December 04

If you are part of our excellent Choir of the Nations – please join us when we practice this Friday, December 04 starting at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel (or choir room – behind the chapel). Please come if you can and please be on time – we need to use the whole time in order to be ready to sing on Sunday morning.

If you would like to join us – it is fun and a good chance to learn more about music – we always welcome new people. You do not have to be a great singer – you only need to enjoy music and singing.

Rick can pick up people who need a ride:

  • Highland Plantation bus stop at 5:25 p.m.
  • Edward Gay at 5:30 p.m.
  • Nicholson bus stop at 5:35 p.m.

Please let me know if you need to be picked up from any other location.

No choir practice until Friday, December 04

Because so many in Choir of the Nations will be out of town and because of the Thanksgiving holiday – we will not gather again to practice until Friday, December 04. See you then!

Join us for choir practice this Friday, November 06

Many of you got to watch Choir of the Nations sing so beautifully on Sunday, October 25. You can sing with us!

We invite you to practice with Choir of the Nations this Friday, November 06 starting at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel at University Baptist Church. If you are part of the choir – please come if you can and please be on time. We need everyone here on time so that we can be ready to sing on Sunday morning.

If you need a ride Pastor Rick can pick you up at:

  • Edward Gay at 5:30 p.m.
  • Nicholson bus stop at 5:35 p.m.

If you need him to pick you up from somewhere else on or near campus please let him know.

We will have a snack available for anyone who is not able to have dinner before practice.

No English Conversation or choir practice this Friday

But we look forward to our next English Conversation on Friday November 06 at 7:30 p.m. with choir practice before that at 6:00 p.m.

Do you know an international who would like to practice English with friendly people and get to visit an American home? Please let them know about English Conversation!
