Church work day – Saturday October 31

This Saturday October 31 is a “church work day” from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon.

What is a “church work day”? It is a day when we help take care of the wonderful church property that we enjoy using. We might clean, paint, repair. We also need people to help with drinks, snacks, and encouraging volunteer workers. No one has to participate. But if you have time Saturday morning and would like to help you will be very welcome. There will be something to do for everyone. There will be a volunteer supervisor who has a list of things for us to do.

Church of the Nations has been asked to help this Saturday. There will be four other groups from University Baptist Church. If you come make sure you wear “work clothes” – clothes that can get dirty. One of the things Church of the Nations will probably do is… wash the buses.

Simple lunch at Wright home this Sunday

Note – Rick and Armetta Wright invite internationals to their home for a simple lunch after worship. If you plan to come please reply to this email and let us know – that will help us know how many are coming.

Come for our regular activities this Sunday!

  • Bible study* at 9:15 a.m.
  • Worship together at 10:30 a.m.

We have a Bible study class for beginners in simple English and a class for people who know the Bible well. There are also special classes and activities for children and youth.

If you live on or near Louisiana State University the church bus can pick you up and give you a ride.

  • Highland Road bus stop (near the Highland Plantation sign not the bus stop near WalMart) at 8:45 a.m.
  • Gourrier (near El Cid and Embassy apartments) at 8:50 a.m.
  • Edward Gay apartments at 8:53 a.m.
  • Nicholson bus stop at 8:55 a.m.
  • Tigerland (on Alvin Dark across from Circle K) at 8:58 a.m.
  • Brightside bus stop at 9:00 a.m.

Please allow 5-10 minutes for the bus to arrive because of weather or traffic. You can also drive yourself. We are at 5775 Highland Road, 70808. If you drive yourself turn into the back parking lot.

We look forward to seeing you this Sunday!

Work day (morning) this Saturday February 28

20150209_161740

This Saturday February 28 we will have a “work day” starting at 9:00 a.m. until about 11:00-11:30 a.m. in the chapel (our place of worship). We will do several things to make our place of worship more clean and beautiful. (Yes I could use the word “cleaner” but which way I can use the word “more” with both adjectives.)

  • Clean windows
  • Move new curtains to top of windows
  • Clean vents
  • Clean artificial plants
  • Move furniture
  • And so on

Different people can work on different tasks. When we are finished there will be a simple lunch with sandwiches + chips + drinks + cookies.

Please let Rick know if you plan to come and help. If you need a ride someone will pick you up (between 8:40-8:50 a.m. depending on where you live).

Important note about activities this Sunday (and next week)

This Sunday January 4 will be a little different. There will not be a church bus. There will not be a Bible study in simple English for internationals. There will not be a simple lunch for internationals at the Wright home.

We still encourage internationals to come for Bible study and worship =

  • You can join one of the other Bible study classes
  • Worship with University Baptist Church in the “big sanctuary”

We do have our regular activities next week =

  • English Conversation starts again on Friday January 9!
  • Church bus + Bible study for internationals + worship with internationals in the “chapel” on Sunday January 11

Downtown Christmas music – Sunday December 14

Church of the Nations will take a group downtown for the Downtown Christmas Pilgrimage this Sunday, December 14 starting at 5:30 p.m. at Mt Zion Baptist Church (near First United Methodist Church). We can only take 14 people on the church bus so please email me to let me know you want to come and need a ride on the bus. If you can drive yourself and meet us at the first church that will help.

The Downtown Christmas Pilgrimage is a beautiful and special way to prepare for and celebrate Christmas. Music and singing at six churches in downtown Baton Rouge. We begin at one church then walk to the next one and the next one and so on – six churches in all. We usually only go to the first 3-4 churches before it gets too late and people start to become tired.

You can drive yourself and meet us at the first church by 5:00 p.m. (nice and early in order to get good seats). We normally park at First Presbyterian Church and then walk to Mt Zion First Baptist.

This is where we *park* next to First Presbyterian Church

Or you can ride on the church bus. Schedule and order very different from English Conversation!

  • Tigerland (bus stop across from Circle K) at 4:15 p.m.
  • Brightside (across from gas station + stores) at 4:18 p.m.
  • Boone (next to Place du Plantier apartments) at 4:25 p.m.
  • Highland Plantation (bus stop next to big sign) at 4:30 p.m.
  • Gourrier + Milford (between El Cid + Embassy apartments) at 4:35 p.m.
  • Edward Gay at 4:40 p.m.

Please allow 5-10 minutes for the bus to arrive because of weather or traffic. We will not come back to the church before we go downtown. If you drive yourself it is easy to meet us at First Presbyterian Church parking lot at 5:00 p.m.

Children are welcome (as long as they participate and can walk with everyone else). We strongly recommend you have something to eat/drink before you come! (We may not be finished until around 8:00 p.m.) Bring good walking shoes and good clothes for the cold weather.

This is perhaps Pastor Rick’s favorite activity during the Advent/Christmas season. We hope you can join us.
